Coupe du Monde

Sunday night, we finally went to a pub near our metro station. It was a small-ish crowd, quite fun. Cheered when a goal went in and of course we went “BARTHEZ! BARTHEZ! BARTHEZ!” during the penalty kicks.

Anyways, we were pretty stunned by Zidane’s head butt. Can anybody tell us why he did that? Commentary was in French and with the TV still kaput, we can’t get any info. :-(

Paris has been very quiet for the last 2 days.

Zidane's career has been dotted with other headbutting incidents and also one footstomping episode against a Saudi player. He's certainly no angel himself.

No one knows for sure what caused the latest incident but it seemed like Materazzi and Zidane were trading insults and Zidane lost his cool first. Whatever it was, it was a terrible end to his career. World Cup 2006 has been a huge letdown and one of the most boring for me.

Today's straits times reported the italian player admitting that he had insulted ZZ because the latter was stuck up. Supposedly when he grabbed ZZ's jersey to stop him, ZZ told him that if he wanted the jersey, he can have it after the match. That's when the italian bugger shot him with an insult, supposed something common but nothing about mother.

I dun speak italian, but I suppose in the local context, he is trying to say that he did not say "gan nee lao boo" but more of "kan nee nar! siah lan simi, lim peh beh gia eh!

Lipreaders employed by the British tabloid analysed the tape of the incident. They claim that italian defender Marco Materazzi called Zidane a "son of a terrorist whore".(Zidane is Algerian)
