week 3

this is the start of our 3rd week here, temp suddenly dropped to 17°c this morning, cold man, autumn is early. Not so homesick, was standing out at the internet cafe last week at night and suddenly realised that we can settle down here, got to admit that it's a quirky place, with quirky people and habits. The extra crash classes we took back in April is helping a wee bit, we can understand a bit more, and the french folks seem to appreciate us trying to speak more french.

.. funny, the thing that reminds us of home is the food. The pho that we are having is a bit like beef noodles with soup back in singapore, the japanese food over here DOESNT... always comparing, tsk tsk. We haven't been out late at night so much due to security concerns but with London just a few hours away, and seeing the police search muslim guys with bags, the idea of something happening just seems a lot closer you know? a minor precaution we've been doing is to take the metro carriage either at the end or the front.

Met a couple of nice folks in church yesterday, and one of them said that Singaporeans they've met in church speak English with a Brit accent!! so funny.

Okies, got to go, Jo's sleepy, got to go back to hotel to sleepz.

well, special armed mrt police started today, meaning they are specially trained for mrt security purposes.
frankly, i dunno what that means, if a nutcase is bent on going (boom!), what can these specially trained chaps do? Unless u r telling me they are trained to read minds ;-P

wes, in case u have not heard, ur reservist liability is now cut from 13 to 10 years.

about reservist, did they also mention about and/or mandatory 7high key?

mrt police? in plain clothes? we saw some guy screaming the other day in the metro, think he was pickpocket or something, the dude was set on by couple of guys in uniform.

btw, also got garang looking french miltary men with FAMAS rifles at the montparnasse train station.

they stopped using the term high and low. what they took out was the last 3 years, which is the BIT years (those 2 days session). That leaves u with the 7 high 3 low that we r familiar with. However, if the commander feels that u guys r gilak enough, then the 8th - 10th yr can convert to BIT years (meaning 2 days). this answer ur question?

i think the mrt police are more of a deterrence than anything la. they even randomly search backpacks. wonder if they will search women handbags tho...
